The socio-economic situation in the country continued to deteriorate after the Beirut Port Blast on August 4, 2021 and was further exacerbated by the Covid-19 outbreak and consequent lockdowns, in addition to the continuous depreciation of the Lebanese Lira.

Weekly food bills can equal months of a typical Lebanese family income, banks are refusing to let people withdraw money. The majority of the population is unable nowadays to access basic needs, and education is one of these inaccessible needs.

It is noted by several teachers and school coordinators in Lebanon that many children are attending school without any meal or even money to buy food. This phenomenon is unfortunately new along with the intensely increasing poverty rates. Teachers are reporting high numbers of students not affording to buy at least 1 meal; which led several teachers to request from parents and even teachers who can afford to get more sandwiches and snacks to distribute them to students. Upon a number of miserable stories and testimonies from public and even private schools, Ajialouna decided to take an action!

Direct Beneficiaries:

Ajialouna proposes to provide one light meal for every student in the primary and intermediate level in some public or semi-private schools located in deprived areas in Beirut.

The light meal costs $1 and it includes:

  • 1 snack (biscuit/ wafer/ fruit)
  • 1 Water bottle/ juice

Moreover, Ajialouna will follow up with the schools’ coordinators on weekly basis to make sure all students are receiving their meals on daily basis.
